pelican-cafe-restaurant-in-lake-parkPB Girls Dine enjoyed a delightful lunch at Pelican Café on US Highway 1 in Lake Park. It was our first visit to the restaurant, and spectacular, five-star and simply wonderful are the adjectives that immediately come to mind! We are already planning our next visit!

We chose to eat inside rather than on the patio, and were escorted to our table by a charming hostess. Pristine white tablecloths with nautical navy napkins and stunning paintings on wainscoted walls brought back cherished memories of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. We love the restaurant’s slogan: “Where Nantucket Meets the Florida Keys.”

A winner of TripAdvisor’s 2015-2018 Certificate of Excellence, this stellar restaurant was founded in 2008 by Chef Mark Francine and Karen Howe, formerly of Greenwich, Connecticut – and PB Girls Dine’s former stomping grounds, too!

Pelican Cafe is located just across US Highway 1 from Kelsey Park. Built in the 1930’s, the restaurant was the former guest house of Boston entrepreneur Harry Seymour Kelsey (1879 -1957), one of the largest land owners in Palm Beach County back in the 1900’s.

The wait staff was delightful, and Megan was our waitress. We began our meal with an excellent Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc . . . very crisp and a perfect afternoon white wine.

For lunch, we thoroughly enjoyed a homemade stracciatella soup . . . and definitely the finest we’ve ever tasted! (Did you know “stracciatella” comes from the Italian word for “torn apart?” This refers to the little shreds of cooked egg in the broth.)

The Italian chopped salad and Margherita pizza with marinara sauce, mozzarella and basil, were excellent.

And then it was time for dessert . . . a splendid event featuring a huge slice of to-die-for pineapple upside down cake. Heavenly!

Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, brunch and drinks, you can enjoy live music every Monday night from 6:30-9:30pm with Dawn Marie and Giovanni Fazio!

Please note: Pelican Cafe’s homemade donuts have a reputation of being the very best in town. Be sure to inquire when you are seated!

PB Girls Dine highly recommends a visit to Pelican Cafe, and we promise you’ll be rewarded with a first class dining experience.
